How To Remove Gel Nail Polish At Home?: 6 Ways to Remove Gel Manicure

It's easy to wax poetic over the benefits of a gel manicure---two weeks of chip-free wear and glossy shine? Yes, please! Removing the LED-cured lacquer, however, is another story. Gel manicures aren't supposed to chip—but let's be honest, that's not always the case. We all know how bad it is to rip the gel off of our nails, yet there are still many of us who fall short of The Beatles when we try to "Let It Be."
Lets see Ways to Remove Your Gel Nail Polish Manicure Without Going to the Salon.

Six Ways to Remove Gel Nail Polish

1. To be able to remove gel nail polish you'll need some tools. Make sure that you have an orange stick, a normal nail file and a buffer, cotton, tinfoil, nail strengthener, cuticle balm, Vaseline and nail polish remover with acetone or acrylic nail remover.

2. When you have everything, the first thing you need to do to start removing your gel nail polish is to file the surface of your gel nails but avoid filing your natural nail. Acrylics often weaken and soften our natural nails, which is why we must take special care not to file the surface of our natural ones, just the gels and the tips.

3. THE SOAKING METHOD: This method takes the longest and requires a little elbow grease, but works wonders if you don't have any foil or cotton balls on hand. Grab two bowls from the kitchen, one slightly larger than the other. Fill the larger bowl with warm water, place the smaller one inside (as you would with a double-boiler), and pour in some acetone. Because acetone is highly-flammable, you should not heat it in the microwave or stove. As you allow the solution to warm for a minute or two, buff the surfaces of your manicure with a nail file, then place your hand inside the acetone and allow the gels to gradually soak off. After 10 to 15 minutes, you should notice the corners coming loose. As your nails are steeping in the acetone, take an orange wood stick and gently begin to loosen the gel on each nail until it is removed completely. Repeat on the other hand, and top off with a generous amount of hand cream and cuticle oil.

4. Once you have filed your gel nail polish as much as possible, you will see that you've got rid of a great amount. Now, we take a cotton ball or cotton disc (both will work) and soak it with acetone or artificial nail remover. Pure acetone is the more commonly-used product, but it is highly toxic and difficult to find it in shops. Moreover, it can weaken your nail even more. You need to be patient if using acetone nail polish remover, because it is not as effective and takes longer to soften gel nails. Artificial nail remover is the best option, as it doesn't damage your nail and only takes about 10 minutes to remove the gels.

5. Take the nail buffer, polish and smooth your nails until they look healthy and normal again, then use the polishing side for the finishing touch. Since your natural nails will have been somewhat weakened, don't forget to apply a coat of nail strengthener to help them start to recover and apply some cuticle balm.

6. "Start with your nondominant hand—it makes things easier—and place an acetone-soaked cotton ball on your pinkie. Then wrap a piece of foil around your fingertip to secure the cotton ball in place," says Tracylee. Repeat on all ten nails, then leave your foil-covered fingertips alone for about 10 to 15 minutes.
